Top Quality Ratchet Chain BindersChain Block | Chain Block

Chain Block (also known as a block and tackle or a hand chain hoist) is a mechanism used to lift and lower heavy loads using a chain. Chain blocks contain two wheels which the chain is wound around. When the chain is pulled, it winds around the wheels and begins to lift the item that is attached to the rope or chain via a hook. Chain Blocks can also be attached to lifting slings or chain bags to lift the load more evenly.

Safety Considerations in Chain Block Operations

Safety is of utmost importance when working with chain blocks. Operators should receive proper training and adhere to safety guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries. Before using a chain block, it is crucial to inspect the equipment thoroughly. This includes checking the load chain, hooks, and connections for any signs of wear, damage, or deformities. Adequate load securing techniques should be employed, ensuring that the load is properly attached and balanced to avoid any potential hazards during lifting and moving operations.

Efficient and Reliable Load Lifting

One of the key advantages of chain blocks is their ability to lift heavy loads efficiently and reliably. With their robust construction and high lifting capacities, chain blocks provide a practical solution for handling substantial weights. The mechanical advantage offered by the chain block design allows users to lift heavy loads with minimal effort. By pulling the hand chain or operating the lever, the load chain moves over the chain wheel, gradually raising the load. This controlled lifting mechanism ensures precise positioning and safe maneuvering of the load.

Cautions at use

Chain block is optimized to bear vertical loads. When fixing or pulling a load, upper hook, bottom hook and load chain should be aligned in vertical position in order to bear the safety load.

According to Occupation Safety and Health Acts, hook and load chain of lever Hoist should be replaced if the hook throat opening is stretched by more than 10% or if load chain is stretched by more than 5%. Load chain, hook and chain pin which are directly bearing the load should be checked regularly since stretched length is difficult to measure through visual inspection. Lever Hoists are devices that are easily exposed to risk of overload, be careful when using such devices.

The advantage of a chain block

Chain blocks have a compact shape and they are extremely lightweight which saves the time of mounting. Further, the ease of use makes chain blocks the first choice in the material handling industry.

Frequently Asked Question

Do you have any question?

Put it in simple words, a Chain Block is a lifting device operated by pulling a hand chain. A Lever Block is a lifting device operated by rotation of a handle/ lever.

Also known as chain blocks or chain pulley blocks, chain hoists are used extensively to move heavy loads through chain pulling. While most chain hoists are operated by hand, lever blocks (or ratchet lever hoists) are operated by pulling a manual lever either forward or backward.

Chain block gives you the ability to lift huge loads up to 50 tonnes with ease by using mechanical advantage. Its working load limit (WLL) is greater than a lever hoist which lifts a load up to 10,000 kg.

The chain block contains two wheels or cogs in which the chain is wrapped around. Both electric chain blocks and manual chain blocks have the same fundamental functions - when the chain is pulled, it wraps around the wheels which adds torque to the lifting mechanism, pulling the item that is on the other end of the chain (usually with a strong hook) and lifting it off the ground - the wheels inside the block are how they are able to lift heavy loads - even when operated manually. A chain block has a strong chain for lifting objects and attaching hooks to, manual lifting blocks have a hand chain which can be used for pulling by hand to bring the load up (these are powered by motors in electric chain blocks), they also have a grabbing hook for applying the lifting load. Electric chain blocks are the most common method, however, manual chain blocks are commonly used to lift lighter loads as they aren’t as expensive and are easier to move.
